Fun n' Flying

Here is a look out the canopy onto the clouds below. It is wonderful to have a plane with a climb rate like the Sonex has. 1400 fpm quickly gets you up to the cool, smooth and clear air above the clouds.    12/16/02
The visibility out the Sonex canopy is great. It is like being in a open cockpit but without the wind, cold, bugs and rain.   12/16/02
I like my Garmin 295. it is very handy to have a moving map and an aviation database with all the airports, frequencies and such at the touch of a button. The color screen does tend to wash out in bright sun though. If I had to do it again I would look carefully at the new Garmin 196. Both the 295 and 196 are WAAS compatible and are unbelievably accurate. The LCD displays of my MicroEncoder, Microair and EIS are still very readable even in bright sun. 12/16/02

I call this picture "Self Portrait of a Very Happy Man". If you would like to receive a signed, limited edition, reproduction suitable for framing, send me $1, hit Ctrl+P and then sign the what ever comes out of your printer. This edition is limited to the number of people who have a printer and once every one with a printer has one, no more will be printed so act now.   12/16/02
The occasional bad weather was not the only thing to keep me on the ground. I don't know who the guy in this plane thinks he is but he shut down the entire Cedar Rapids airport and spoiled a perfectly good flying day! :-(   12/16/02
My friends Mike Dean and Bob Hall stop by one day and we went flying. I still had not flow off my 40 hours so they had to admire my Sonex from a Cessna 150.     12/16/02
Here is another peak out that beautiful Sonex canopy.  12/16/02
The Grand Rapids EIS had a data port so you can hook up your laptop to it and record the data stream for later analysis. Here is the data from one flight and the graph I made in Excel. EIS818.XLS you will need Microsoft Excel to read the file.   12/16/02
He I am strapping Wayne Flurry into my Sonex for a quick flight.    12/16/02
Not all of my flying has been in the Sonex. EAA Chapter 33 brought the EAA's Spirit of St. Louis replica to Iowa City. Dave Lammers was the safety pilot sitting up front where the gas tanks would have been and I got to fly back in the Lindbergh seat.    12/16/02
Did I mention how cool it was to fly above the clouds.    12/16/02
I met Charles Patterson in Spencer IA and we did a little flying around north-west Iowa.   12/16/02
Alan Kritzman recently got his beautiful RV8 flying and we could not resist getting in some formation flying. He may have a few knots on the top end over me but my wallet is not nearly as flat as his. ;^)   12/16/02
Alan recently put this Dynon EFIS unit in his RV-8. He really likes it and I am thinking about one for my Sonex. It would be a good alternative for the limited space on the Sonex panel.   10/27/03
Just another summer day flying around in my favorite plane.   10/27/03
My Sonex may be small but it is not the smallest one on the ramp.   10/27/03
Another in my artistic series. I call this one "Shiny Wing on a Partly Cloudy Day".   10/27/03
Here is a video I took while climbing out of Colorado on my way home. Caution the file is 2,260KB. 7/16/06
Here is another a video. Caution the file is 3.340KB. 7/16/06
Yet another video. Caution the file is 3,568KB. 7/16/06
