Yet another former
to pound and flute. This time the former is made from stainless-steel which
is much harder to cut and file than aluminum. Oddly though, it deburrs
to leave a very smooth edge. 3/5/00 |

Bending the SS is
easy but it is tough to drill. I used up several sharp new drill bits.

The box for the
fuel filler was easier to make than I thought it would be. The tough part
was match drilling. It was hard to hold the parts together and still get
enough pressure on the drill to cut through the SS. I screwed a block to
my bench to help back the filler box up as I drilled. 3/5/00 |

Fitting the windscreen
strap was tricky. The SOUTHCO fasteners did not fit in between the flutes.
I had to rework several of the flutes to get every thing to fit.

Here is the
main part of the firewall. It is stainless steel also. I was able to bend
it on my 36" brake. 3/19/00 |

Here is the lower
firewall attached to the fuselage. 4/28/00 |

Here you can see
the upper engine mount point as well as the hinge that will hold the cowling.

From the inside
you can see the firewall and floor stiffeners as well as the gusset that
connects the two. 4/28/00 |

Here you can see
the inside part of the lower engine mount point and how all the angles
come together. 4/28/00 |

Here you can just
see the inside part of the upper engine mount point. This picture as well
as the previous two were taken while the fuselage was still upside down.
I have flipped the pictures to make it easier to view. 4/28/00 |

Here I am attaching
the upper firewall. I have not yet riveted the filler box.

Here is a close
