Fly Before You Buy

Here is your chance to fly the Sonex (and a couple of other planes) before you ever put snips to aluminum. I programed these planes to fly in Microsoft Flight Simulator 98. I believe the flight model to be accurate, however, since my Sonex is still under construction I have no way to verify its accuracy. Still I have been having fun flying around. I also plan on using this flight simulator to rehearse my flights before I make my first flights in the real thing.

I addition to flying these models I have been trying out different paint schemes and playing around with various instrument panel layouts.  You can download an advanced panel I designed that includes an all-in-one engine monitoring unit and a GPS. Click on the "Advanced Instrument Panel" link below and see the "readme" file for instructons. You wil need to also need to download the "microMONITOR" and "EzGPS" to use this panel.

You will also notice that I have not been limited to the Sonex. I have programed the Convecta motoglider which will soon be released by Sonex, Ltd. And don't forget about the RV's. I hear they are becomming a very popular plane. I remember seeing one or two at Oshkosh this year. 8^)

Installation Instructions:

  1. Click on the plane of your choice to the left and save the file to you local hard drive.
  2. Download and install WinZip if you don't already have it. (link to the lower left. )
  3. Open the file in WinZip and extract the file to the FS98 "Aircraft" directory. Typically C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\Aircraft.
  4. Copy the "Sound" directory from the C182 into the new aircraft directory. I did not include the sound files because of their size.
  5. Download and install "Patch Set 1.0" and "Aircraft Converter" (link to the lower left)
  6. Now you can select the new aircraft from the "Flight" menu.
  7. To prevent FS98 from freezing when you crash the plane; turn off "Show aircraft damage" under the Aircraft>AircraftSettings>Crash/Damage menu.

Please feel free to download these planes and fly these planes all you like, however, please do not redistribure them. I have had several people ask to put the planes on their own web sites, but I update these planes often and would rather people download them from here to be sure they are getting the latest version.
